Send and Receive Messages from the Manager Portal (SMS/MMS)

Scope

Intended Audience: All End Users

The following steps will show you how to send and receive messages via the Manager Portal. SMS & MMS Messages are stored for 30 days,

 

Requirements:

  • Messaging-enabled DID 
     
  • Portal access 
     
  • Supported SMS types: All 
     
  • Supported MMS types: jpg, jpeg, gif
 

 

Sending Messages

  1. Once logged into the portal you will have a Contacts window on your bottom right
  2. If the window is minimized simply click on the black bar
  3. To create a message click on the Chat icon at the top of the Contacts window
  4. A New Conversation window will appear
  5. In the Search for Contacts field enter any 11 digit telephone number and click Send SMS
    Note: Group SMS that includes both internal and external recipients is not supported.

  6. Click the paperclip icon at the bottom
     
  7. Select the file you wish to upload
  8. Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop the supported MMS file onto the Send a message text box and the file will get sent automatically.

    Note:  When you try to upload or drag-and-drop an unsupported file, you will get a warning messaged that says "Message failed to send because file type is not supported by carrier!"
  9. Your message will move to the main window with a time stamp. It has now been sent

Receiving Messages

New SMS messages will display in a window similar to the one in the above step. New messages will have a green bar until you click in the window. You can reply using by typing in the Send a message... window and hit the Enter key


Missed Messages

Messages not acknowledged within 10 minutes in the Manager Portal or on your mobile app will be sent to the email on file for the assigned user. At this time you cannot use email to reply to an SMS or MMS message.


SMS Character Limit

SMS has a character limit of what can be sent and received based on the carrier.

NOTE: The character limit for SMS is 160 characters


MMS Size Limit

MMS has a size limit of what can be sent and received based on the carrier.

NOTE: Message size doesn't equal media size. Message size includes all the pieces of the message: headers, text, files, etc.

Below are some notes on the various message sizes accepted by US carriers:
