Scope Requirements Things to Remember PBX Transfer Checklist

Scope

Intended Audience: All Users

This checklist is to assist in the Transfer and Migration of a PBX. Such as Migrating Elastix PBX to Hosted PBX , Hosted PBX to On Prem Elastix PBX or Elastix to Elastix.

 

Requirements

  • Access to old and new PBX
  • Perform a backup of the old PBX and save it to the database before starting the checklist below
 

Things to Remember

  • Everything on the new PBX must match the old PBX to prevent any further changes after the new PBX is live to accomplish this ensure that the client is fine with how their old PBX is set up.
  • The client will have downtime when swapping between PBXs 
  • Make no changes to the old PBX as that PBX may be in use by the client

PBX Transfer Checklist

  • Extensions List
    • Locate all the Extensions within the old PBX and create them within the new PBX. Match settings like voicemail to email, ext password, and outbound caller ID
  • E911 Locations (Not applicable in every platform)
    • Locate all E911 locations and create them in the new PBX 
  • Phone Numbers (Not applicable in every platform)
    • Locate the phone numbers within the old PBX and create the phone numbers within the new PBX
  • Ring Groups
    • Locate all ring groups within the old PBX and create them within the new PBX 
  • System Recordings
    • Download all system recordings (IVR, Voicemail Greeting, MOH, etc) and upload them to the new PBX
  • Hold Music
    • Replace the default music on hold with the recordings uploaded in the step above. 
  • Call Queue & Parking
    • Check for call queue & parking configurations on the old PBX and transfer to the new PBX
  • Time Frame
    • Obtain all time frames from the old PBX and Implement them in the new PBX 
  • Auto Attendant / IVR
    • Obtain IVR configuration from the old PBX and create IVR within the new PBX, with recording attached to the corresponding IVR
  • Call Routing
    • Look at how each number is routed (Inbound Routes) on the old PBX and implement it into the new PBX
  • Trunks
    • Copy trunk configuration from the old PBX to the new PBX
  • Outbound Rules
    • Copy outbound rules from the old PBX to the new PBX
  • Endpoints (Not applicable in every platform)
    • Obtain all the MAC addresses, phone models, and extensions, create the config files within the provisioning server, or copy config files from the old PBX to the new PBX
  • Network Configuration (Not applicable in every platform)
    • Ensure that network settings such as IP address and default gateway match the old PBX
  • User Account Logins
    • Obtain the user account list from the old PBX and copy them to the new PBX
  • Firewall Rules (Not applicable in every platform)
    • Ensure that firewall rules in the old PBX match the same rules in the new PBX
  • Free PBX (Only applicable in Elastix)
    • Ensure that settings within FreePBX > SIP Settings are the same in the old and new PBXs
  • Perform Backup (Not applicable in every platform)
    • Create a backup of the new PBX when everything is working well
